Blog posts A Golden Journey: Jewelmer and the Miss Universe 2023 Philippines Pageant

For the second year in a row, Jewelmer takes pride in being the pearl sponsor for the Miss Universe 2023 Philippines Pageant.

A platform that advocates female empowerment and inspires confidence, its values are aligned with the golden South Sea pearl, the national gem of the Philippines and the centerpiece of Jewelmer’s collections.

The Miss Universe Philippines 2023 delegates began their pageant festivities by visiting Jewelmer’s pearl farm in Palawan — a behind-the-scenes tour of the golden South Sea pearl, a living treasure infused with Filipino culture and creativity.

This experience proved to be an enriching, eye-opening one for them, as showcased at the 2023 Preliminaries. When asked about what the South Sea pearl represented to them as Miss Universe Philippines delegates, Christiana Yeboah linked the pearl to the community behind its creation, as she stated: “…I value the work ethics of the people who do the pearl farming. As someone who has witnessed it, thanks to Jewelmer, I appreciate their perseverance and their patience in order to get the most exquisite of these pearls.”

The pearl resonated with motherhood for Joemay Leo, who was moved to tears at how upon visiting Jewelmer’s pearl farms, she recalled her pregnancy journey: “It’s hard being a mom but it’s also rewarding…Five years just to see a beautiful pearl…it’s really a precious moment because it’s like my daughter being born in[to] this world.”

The road to Miss Universe Philippines culminated during the 2023 Coronation Night on Saturday, May 13, 2023. One of the country’s most highly anticipated events, in attendance were some of pageant royalty’s biggest names, including Miss Universe President Paula Shugart, Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel, and Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi — they graced the room in Jewelmer’s fine jewelry creations.

Filipinos around the world eagerly awaited as the new reigning queen, Miss Universe Philippines 2023, was announced: Michelle Marquez Dee of Makati.

This moment was commemorated when her successor, Celeste Cortesi, crowned Dee in Jewelmer’s La Mer en Majesté Crown — a one-of-a-kind creation embellished with golden South Sea pearls, each living gem a testament to harmony: of man working in nature, of Filipinos working together to achieve excellence.

Two tiaras, inspired by Jewelmer’s La Mer en Majesté collection, were unveiled after the coronation and were crowned on the new Miss Charm Philippines 2024, Krishnah Gravidez of Baguio; and the new Miss Supranational Philippines 2023, Pauline Amelinckx of Bohol. The tiaras are inspired by the sea’s endless mystique, where golden South Sea pearls glisten like the rays of the sun, radiating with ethereal beauty and Filipino pride. Swirls of diamond tendrils recall the movement of the waves, undulating with the rhythm of the tides.

The Miss Universe Organization is renowned for their universal themes of nature, beauty, femininity, strength, and community — qualities akin to the lustrous nature of the golden South Sea pearl and the ever-resilient, powerful woman.
